 Proper fraction

in a proper fraction, the numerator is  less than the denominator 

for example   3/5,  5/7,     3/8,  8/12


Improper fraction

In an improper fraction, the numerator is greater or equal to  the denominator

for example      7/2,    9/4,  77/5  and   6/6


Mixed fraction

A fraction represented with its quotient and remainder is called a mixed fraction.

for example       2. 3/5      

in example   2 is the quotient     and 3 is a remainder

1. Take  the L.C.D  of both denominators 3 and 2,  that would be  6 2. Divide  first denominator  3 by  LCD  6, we will find   the product  =2 3. Then  divide the second  denominator 2   by  LCD   6, product will be  =3 4. First product multiply with the first numerator  2x2  =4 5. second product will be multiplied with the second numerator  4x3= 12 6. Add  both numerators now 4  + 12 =16 7.   The parts of the expressions connected by the signs of   "+"   and  "- "  are called the terms of the expressions. In  X+Y, there are two terms  X  and Y  of the expression. In  X-2Y +YZ  there are 3 terms  X,  -2Y  and  YZ. Polynomial   is a  monomial  or sum of monomials, each called term of the polynomial. The degree of polynomial is the greatest degree of its terms. The degree of  nonzero  constant term is 0. The constant 0 does not have degree. e.g.  6  has  zero degree   whereas  0  has no degree.
