Equivalent Fractions and Unit Fraction

  Fraction

A fraction represents a part of  a whole   or  any number of equal parts

For example:

 A cake is divided into  4 pieces,  each piece represents 1/4 of the cake

one-half cake and one-third cake are other examples.

The top number is the numerator

The bottom number is the denominator

In a proper fraction, the numerator is less than  the denominator

and in an improper fraction, the numerator is greater than the denominator.

A fraction is a term that has a numerator and denominator 

EQUIVALENT   FRACTION

An equivalent fraction is defined as, a fraction that may have different numerators and Denominators but represent the same value.

for example 1/2,      2/4,       3/6   and  4/8

UNIT       FRACTION

Any fraction with 1 as a Numerator is called a unit fraction and who number for the denominator.

for example 1/5,     1/7,   1/8 and 1/13

1. Take  the L.C.D  of both denominators 3 and 2,  that would be  6 2. Divide  first denominator  3 by  LCD  6, we will find   the product  =2 3.   The parts of the expressions connected by the signs of   "+"   and  "- "  are called the terms of the expressions. In  X+Y, there are two terms  X  and Y  of the expression. In  X-2Y +YZ  there are 3 terms  X,  -2Y  and  YZ. Polynomial   is a  monomial  or sum of monomials, each called term of the polynomial. The degree of polynomial is the greatest degree of its terms. The degree of  nonzero  constant term is 0. The constant 0 does not have degree. e.g.  6  has  zero degree   whereas  0  has no degree.
