Equivalent Fractions and Unit Fraction

  Fraction

A fraction represents a part of  a whole   or  any number of equal parts

For example:

 A cake is divided into  4 pieces,  each piece represents 1/4 of the cake

one-half cake and one-third cake are other examples.

The top number is the numerator

The bottom number is the denominator

In a proper fraction, the numerator is less than  the denominator

and in an improper fraction, the numerator is greater than the denominator.

A fraction is a term that has a numerator and denominator 

EQUIVALENT   FRACTION

An equivalent fraction is defined as, a fraction that may have different numerators and Denominators but represent the same value.

for example 1/2,      2/4,       3/6   and  4/8

UNIT       FRACTION

Any fraction with 1 as a Numerator is called a unit fraction and who number for the denominator.

for example 1/5,     1/7,   1/8 and 1/13
