 solving linear equation 5/2   X  - 8 = 27 5/2 X  -8 + 8 =  27 + 8  (add 8  to both sides) 5/2  X   = 35 2x 5/2X  = 35 x 2     ( multiply  both sides by  2 ) 5X  = 70 5X/5  = 70 /5      ( divide both sides by 5) x = 14

Linear equation in one variable  Meanings of  Linear:  Linear means  progressing  from one state to another in a single series of steps or sequential Equation :   An algebraic sentence that says two algebraic expressions are equal is called an equation. for example   x +  7 = 16 5p -3 = 5 in these expressions   x is variable,     a is  1  whereas  b = - 9

proper fractoin improper fraction and mixed fraction

Proper fraction in a proper fraction, the numerator is  less than the denominator  for example   3/5,  5/7,     3/8,  8/12 Improper fraction In an improper fraction, the numerator is greater or equal to  the denominator for example      7/2,    9/4,  77/5  and   6/6 Mixed fraction A fraction represented with its quotient and remainder is called a mixed fraction. for example       2. 3/5       in example   2 is the quotient     and 3 is a remainder

Equivalent Fractions and Unit Fraction

Fraction A fraction represents a part of  a whole    or  any number of equal parts For example:  A cake is divided into  4 pieces,  each piece represents 1/4 of the cake one-half cake and one-third cake are other examples. The top number is the numerator The bottom number is the denominator In a proper fraction , the numerator is less than  the denominator and in an improper fraction , the numerator is greater than the denominator. A fraction is a term that has a numerator and denominator  EQUIVALENT   FRACTION An equivalent fraction is defined as, a fraction that may have different numerators and Denominators but represent the same value. for example 1/2,      2/4,       3/6   and  4/8 UNIT       FRACTION Any fraction with 1 as a Numerator is called a unit fraction and who number for the denominator. for example 1/5,     1/7,   1...

Adding fractions with unlike denominators

1. Take  the L.C.D  of both denominators 3 and 2,  that would be  6 2. Divide  first denominator  3 by  LCD  6, we will find   the product  =2 3. Then  divide the second  denominator 2   by  LCD   6, product will be  =3 4. First product multiply with the first numerator  2x2  =4 5. second product will be multiplied with the second numerator  4x3= 12 6. Add  both numerators now 4  + 12 =16 7. Divided by  LCD   6        16/6 8. this fraction will be  reduced by  2  2 goes into 16 ......8 times 2 goes into 6...... 3 times  8/3      it could be changed into mixed fraction        2  2/3    (first 2 is the quotient, second 2 is remainder)
