Algebra

A variable is a letter or symbol such as x, y, z,..... that stands for a number for example the height of a student is a variable , as it varies from student to student.

A quantity which has a fixed numerical value is called a constant e.g.3, 7, 0, -9are constants. In the expression  2x + 5, 5 are constants and x is variable.

The constant appearing before a variable is called a coefficient. In  the term5y  the constant  5 is the coefficient of the term.
